Andrea (Andi) is a speech-language pathologist who has spent the past 27 years working with children and adults in schools, hospitals and private practice. An exciting new role, in addition to managing her private practice, is that of Course Facilitator for Emerson College's distance-learning Master of Science in the Communication Disorders program. Instructing and mentoring students via virtual classrooms, office hours and projects, all through a dynamic, interactive technological platform, brings extra joy as she helps to launch the careers of much-needed speech-language pathologists!
Since receiving her Master of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Arizona's esteemed program, Andrea has continually pursued additional education in evidence-based assessment and treatment. She was awarded the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association's (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology in July of 1993 and holds professional memberships in both ASHA and CSHA (California Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
Previously, she was honored with the The Patti Elson-Becknell Memorial DIS Award (April 2010) by the North County Consortium for Special Education (NCCSE) Community Advisory Committee for exemplifying "dedication, a collaborative team spirit, a nurturing manner and a positive, kind, optimistic and loving attitude".
Perhaps most importantly of all, Andrea is committed to helping children and adults achieve life-long communication skills via collaboration with related fields and professionals. She is active in wellness, whole-foods and plant-based diets and encourages holistic well-being and mind-body integration as the ultimate foundation for improved communication.
When not in the clinic or working with her grad students, you will most likely find Andrea in the great outdoors (beach, anyone?), enjoying her family and pups, performing with the local band she's fronted for 18+ years, reading (reading, reading ... and then more reading!), puttering about the garden and serving local children through her volunteer work with special-needs kiddos attending North Coast church's Sunday classrooms!
